Countdown to departure

Some of us have already left, and many of us are due to leave this Tuesday! We are very excited. We will be spending the first 2 days in Arusha at the Impala Hotel for orientation. This is a five star hotel with lots of amenities so should be fun! There are Internet Cafes all over Arusha so we will be sure to post pics to this site as soon as we are able. After the first two days of orientation, we go to Tenguru Village to start our volunteer work in the school, clinic and agricultural project located there. Many of the group will be spending a free weekend on safari and at least one of our group will be climbing Kilimanjaro at the end of our stay. Many others are travelling either within Tanzania or Europe. More to come.....

sounds like a profound experience; wish I could be there.
I hope you have a favorable impression upon these people. Please write often and send pictures. Fill me in on the nitty-gritty, as much as you can without violating anyones HIPAA privacy.
Thanks,
Michael

How awesome for you! And what a coincidence -- I just started copyediting a book on Sub-Saharan Africa. The text examines the global context (effects of globalization on changing environmental, cultural, economic, urban, and political landscapes in Sub-Saharan Africa), physical-environmental context, sociocultural context, and development context for understanding this "increasingly important" region of the world. Dude.. this is a VERY welcome break from copyediting medical stuff day in and day out!! I'll be thinking of you, esp. as I edit, and I'll let you know if I pick up any interesting and/or helpful facts about Tanzania. :)

PS. YOU ROCK! :)

Nice to be included in this group! You are no doubt taking hundreds of photos -- or having too many special experiences to stop and do the digital thing!

If you do have photos, how about a slide show when you return?
